Escondido, CA May 26,
2009 – Jennifer
Schumaker, representing the North County LGBT (Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender)
Coalition and Marriage Equality USA will be leading a peaceful
Rally for Equality and recognizing 18,000 same-sex marriages as
still valid in front of Escondido City Hall at 201 N. Broadway
from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
“Even though it’s sad that Prop. 8 was upheld, we
are moving forward and connecting with one another as never before,” says
Schumaker—lesbian soccer mom of four, “it is time to
keep educating and communicating.”
Schumaker stood (in the
evenings) on the corner Escondido Blvd and Valley Parkway from
October 13 – Nov 5 of 2008 with a
handwritten sign that read, “Hi, I’m your neighbor!
Protect my Right to Marriage. Please Vote No on Prop. 8!” Schumaker
rallied hundreds of people from the Escondido area—of all
ages—who stood holding signs with her.

in support of gay civil rights and against the injustice of Prop.
8. And today, our voices join with those across the state and nation
who also seek equality for all,” says Jennifer Schumaker,
march co-organizer.
Rally speakers include Olga Diaz, Escondido
City Councilmember-Elect; Rev. Madison Shockley, Pastor, Pilgrim
United Church of Christ,
Carlsbad; Natalie Wilson, Cal State Univ. San Marcos, Professor
of Women’s Studies; Jennifer Schumaker, march co-organizer
and founder of Walk for Togetherness; Jaclyn Deilgat, march co-organizer
and Jania Myers, CSUSM Student Activist.
“I am so proud to be a part of this march in Escondido,” says
Schumaker. “Proposition 8 is our Rosa
Parks moment. Lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender Americans and our friends and families
will never sit down for discrimination again.”
